Emily Edwards of Galax High School won the 2024 Indoor Track & Field 1A State Championship with a 40.5’ shot put throw, a historic first for GHS.
Edwards competed on Feb. 29 at the championship, held at Liberty University in Lynchburg.
Later, she received a special commendation plaque from the Virginia House of Delegates for being named the 2024 Virginia Sports Hall of Fame Student Athlete of the Year, and was recognized at an event honoring student athletes at GHS earlier this month.
Coast to Coast Athletic Conference, an intercollegiate athletic conference affiliated with the NCAA’s Division III, has invited Edwards to compete internationally, at an event in Australia this year.
