Francis Eugene (Gene) Othic, 81, of Woodlawn, Va., passed away Feb. 21, 2024. He was born in Kansas City, Mo., on Feb. 22, 1942, to Maurice and Helen Kessler Othic.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Pat Denning, who raised him. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and retired as lieutenant commander.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Doris Brown Othic of Woodlawn, Va.; children and spouses, Lona Shareen and Jack Simms of Alaska, Robin Maureen Pickett and Terry Myers of Hillsville, Va., Patricia Michelle and Travis Stanley of Laurel Fork, Va., and Brendan Eugene and Ericka Othic of Florida; stepchildren and spouse, Edward Lee and Joyce Morgan Jr. of Hillsville, Va., Cheryl Anne Bath of Charleston, S.C., and Virgil Anthony Morgan of Hillsville, Va.; brothers and sister-in-law, Mark and Cathy Othic and Mike Othic, all of Tucson, Ariz., and Jerry Othic of Florida; three half-sisters and spouse, Mary Woods of California, Patricia and Stanley Pryzbocki and Penny; 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and several special friends.
The funeral service was held Feb. 27, 2024, at Midway Heights Community Church with Brother Max Combs officiating. Burial followed in the Mount Olivet Cemetery at Cranberry, with full military honors by Hillsville VFW Post 1115.
