Virginia State Police are investigating a crash that occurred April 4 at 11:22 a.m. on Sylvatus Highway in Carroll County.
The crash scene was located .01 mile south of Henley Drive, near the border with Wythe County.
A 2000 Chevrolet Blazer — driven by Jennifer L. Hampton, 45, of Jewell Ridge — was heading northbound on the Sylvatus Highway when it ran off the right side of the road, struck a ditch and overturned multiple times before coming to rest in the roadway.
Hampton, who was ejected and seriously injured, was transported by Carroll County Fire and Rescue for treatment. She was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the accident report.
She has been charged with reckless driving, failure to wear a seatbelt and registration violations.
The Hillsville Volunteer Fire Department assisted EMS and mitigated hazards. Also on scene were the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation, VSP said.
