The Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) Raiders Team from Carroll County High School competed in the “Best of the Best” competition on April 20, placing second out of 15 teams and earning a spot in national competition later this year.
The events at JROTC competitions test physical endurance, strength, teamwork and mental fortitude in real-world scenarios that military service members would face.
The Raiders are among the top three teams in the 4th Brigade to advance to nationals, to be held at Fort Knox, Kentucky. This will be the team’s second consecutive trip to nationals.
Best of the Best is an annual regional competition of the top teams from the 4th Brigade, which encompasses six states and Washington D.C.
Only 15 teams in those six states qualified to compete at Best of the Best. The Raiders earned their spot by placing first overall in the male division in a competition held in February at the D-Day Memorial in Bedford.
At Best of the Best, the CCHS Raiders Team won first place in 5K, third in rope bridge, second in team physical fitness challenge, second in fireman’s carry and second in litter course.
