    Kasen Lane Galyean celebrated his sixth birthday Jan. 9. He celebrated with a motorcross party at Blue Ridge Lanes with family and friends. He is the son of Donnie and Angie Galyean of Baywood.

    He is the grandson of Nelson and Linda Galyean of Baywood, Jimmy and Cathy Jones of Galax and Dennis and Janie Cox of Cox’s Chapel. He has two sisters, Hailee Anders and Kristin Galyean.

    Hunter James Lineberry of Hillsville celebrated his first birthday Feb. 13 with a Mickey Mouse themed party.

    His parents are Mark and Adair Lineberry. His grandparents are Darrell and Ramona Surface, Terry and Susie Lineberry and Pat Shumate.

    Riley Preston Mays celebrated his fourth birthday Feb. 8 with a party at his home with family and friends.

    He is the son of Scott and Priscilla Mays. His maternal grandparents are Gordon Bowman and Donnie and Janie Turner. Paternal grandparents are Bobby and Wanda Cothren Mays.

    Byram Ross Whitaker celebrated his first birthday Oct. 11, 2012, with a “Lil’ Slugger” party at the recreation center with family and friends.

    He is the son of Billy and Jessica Whitaker of Galax. His maternal grandparents are Joyce Ford and the late Henry Ford. Paternal grandparents are Charles and Kim Irwin.

  • Man arrested on larceny and drug warrants

    Willis man faces charges in Carroll, Floyd and Montgomery counties.

  • Board extends Sweet's contract indefinitely

    INDEPENDENCE — The Grayson County Board of Supervisors has extended County Administrator Jonathan Sweet’s employment agreement beyond the initial four-year term.
    The agreement was approved by a 3-2 vote during the supervisors meeting earlier this month, with the dissenting votes coming from supervisors John Brewer and David Sexton.
    No comments were made regarding their decision to vote against the agreement.

  • Ambulance driver charged in crash

    HILLSVILLE — A Carroll Fire and Rescue driver received a ticket for failing to yield in a Sunday evening accident on U.S. 221, according to a report by a Hillsville police officer.
    The two-vehicle wreck occurred March 17 at about 8:30 p.m. on 221 at the entrance to the fire-rescue station, when ambulance driver Brian Schlabach, 29, attempted to turn onto the road with lights and sirens on while responding to an emergency call, according to a report by Officer Ricky Hayes.

  • Armed robbery suspects sought

    The Grayson County Sheriff's Department is seeking two suspects in an armed robbery at a Galax residence, in which prescription drugs and cas were stolen.

    According to a report from Sheriff Richard Vaughan, Grayson County deputies responded to a call the afternoon of March 8 to 135 Mockingbird Lane in the Oldtown community to a possible armed robbery.


    The suspects had left the area prior to the deputies' arrival.
