  • Grayson candidates face off at forum

    INDEPENDENCE — The Historic 1908 Courthouse in Independence was the site of the final public forum for what could be a historically large candidate pool for the Nov. 5 general election in Grayson County.
    During the event, which was sponsored by the Twin County Regional Chamber of Commerce, 13 of the 14 total candidates running for the offices of Grayson County Board of Supervisors, school board and treasurer made statements and answered questions anonymously submitted from citizens of the county, as well as questions from the audience.

  • Benefit will help Chappell with expenses

    Just as it does during fires or floods, Twin County E-911’s law enforcement and emergency services community  responded quickly when one of its own found himself in need.
    Emergency dispatcher Matthew Chappell’s colleagues and friends are working to raise money to buy a wheelchair and cover medical bills after a lengthy hospitalization.

  • Galax man charged with meth distribution

    A Galax man has been arrested and charged in connection with the distribution of methamphetamine.
    Pablo Aguilar-Ramirez, 29, was taken into custody by members of the Galax Police Department and the Twin County Drug Task Force near his home on Meadow Street on Oct. 17, after an investigation of his alleged involvement in meth distribution, according to Galax Police Chief Rick Clark.

  • PSA again denies project mishandling

    HILLSVILLE — Debate over the Fancy Gap sewer project continued on Monday, when Fancy Gap citizen Stephen Gregson again challenged the Carroll County Public Service Authority and chairman Tom Littrell, claiming that the project was improperly bid and benefits a county official.

  • Hospital celebrates 40 years

    Forty years ago, Twin County Regional Hospital opened its doors for the first time to begin a new effort of community-oriented healthcare.
    Today, through its many changes, the staff hopes to continue serving the community through a growing affiliation with Duke LifePoint.

  • St. Paul holds 'Festival of Cultures'

    Oakland Elementary School celebrated their annual Festival of Culture on Oct. 17. Students and their families were invited to a potluck dinner featuring dishes from different cultures, followed by an evening of fun games and entertainment.

  • Multi-vehicle crash results in fatality

    Carroll County first responders were called to Fancy Gap Mountain on Tuesday afternoon after a multi-vehicle accident resulted in one fatality.
    Virginia 
State Police confirmed that James Cody Lineberry, 22, of Hillsville, was killed in the accident, which involved a total of three vehicles.


  • Turns two

    Levi Kristopher Ward turned two years old on Oct. 4. He celebrated with a Mickey Mouse party at his home. He is the sons of Kris and Mary Lynne Ward of Independence and has an older brother, Braeden.

    Their grandparents are Harry Cox, Bo and Susan Moxley, and Harvey and Jill Ward. Their great-grandparents are Agnes Cox, Mary Jane Hollingsworth, Odell Moxley, Danna Ward and Lacy and Dreama Bowman.

  • She's five

    Breanna Lynn McMillian turned five Aug. 25. She celebrated her birthday with family and friends. Her father is Glen McMillian of Cana. Her mother is Rebecca McMillian of Lambsburg.

    Her paternal grandparents are the late Donald and Cathy McMillian of Cana. Her maternal grandparents are Brenda Carter of Cana and James Bevins of Mount Airy, N.C. She has an aunt, chasity McMillian.

  • Jones, Miller marry

    Katheryn Regina Jones of Galax and Mark Allen Miller of Fries were united in marriage June 8, 2012, at West Galax United Methodist Church. Pastor Sam Bartlett officiated.
    The bride is the daughter of Tommy and Rhonda Jones. She is the granddaughter of Maudie Horton and the late Rush Horton, and of the late Arlyss and Ella Mae Jones.

    The groom is the son of Roger and Sharon Miller. He is the grandson of Geneva Leonard and the late Horace Leonard, and the late Worth and Ardean Miller.
