  • Galax hits roadblock in paving plan

Galax has run into a roadblock while planning to repave Main Street.

Last month, Galax City Council learned that the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) would provide $338,972 to pave portions of South Main Street and all of North Main Street, as well as the westbound lane of East Stuart Drive from the intersection at McDonald’s to Gillespie Lane.

However, the city learned at its August meeting that the downtown portion of the project might not be feasible.
