  • Town makes connections mandatory

HILLSVILLE — The idea to follow the mandatory connection ordinance already on the books for town sewer has floated with Hillsville officials.
Town council has decided to start more rigidly enforcing this existing rule, possibly affecting about 80 customers. The law says that, with some exceptions, citizens must connect to town sewer if they live within 200 feet of a line — or pay a fee.
During the 2012 budget talks it came to light that, in a crunch year for the town’s utility services, Hillsville hadn’t been living up to that law.
