  • Trial delayed in deputy fatality case

    HILLSVILLE — A jury trial has been delayed for a man charged in connection with the death of a Carroll County deputy in 2017.

    Joseph Alan Lambert, 21, of Goodview, was being pursued by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department in March 2017 when Deputy Curtis Bartlett answered fellow officers’ calls for help. He was on his way to join the pursuit when his patrol vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer at the Interstate 77-U.S 58 intersection.

    Bartlett died at the scene.

  • Bowman to serve 25 years for meth trafficking

    ABINGDON — A Carroll County man convicted as a result of the Operation Rolling Thunder investigation has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison.

    Timothy Bowman, 46, of Cana, pleaded guilty last year to two charges related to his involvement in a methamphetamine distribution network. He was sentenced at a hearing April 24 in U.S. District Court in Abingdon.

  • Man indicted for soliciting minor for sex

    INDEPENDENCE – A Grayson County Circuit Court grand jury handed down indictments against 17 suspects for drug violations and other charges, including a man who allegedly solicited a minor through social media using public internet access at the county library.

    The grand jury, which met April 27, also handed down several sealed indictments. They will be unsealed once the suspects are arrested.

  • Repass pleads guilty to 50 charges

    HILLSVILLE — A Wytheville man has pleaded guilty to 50 charges in Carroll County Circuit Court, many of them stemming from a May 2017 police chase.

    Among many other things, Eric Sean Repass, 45, was charged with attempted capital murder of a police officer, for shooting at a Carroll deputy during the chase.

    Repass’ pleas included 49 felonies and a misdemeanor, according to Carroll County Commonwealth’s Attorney Nathan Lyons.

  • Man convicted after two trials, facing third

    Eugene Scott Hampton, 43, of Galax, was found guilty of two sets of charges in two trials in Grayson County Circuit Court last month, and a third trial is pending.

    Hampton was a suspect in the break-in and theft of a firearm from Gardner’s Pawn Shop in downtown Galax in September 2017. He was arrested and charged with burglary on Sept. 20, 2017, by Det. J.B. Greer and Det. Robbie Isom of the Galax Police Department.

  • Teacher, coach charged with assault

    Kevin Renwick Frazier, 48, of Galax, a former instructor at Galax High School, has been charged with two separate cases of assault with two separate minor victims.

    The parents of the juveniles obtained warrants after an investigation by School Resource Officer Vickie Taylor of the Galax Police Department. Warrants were served by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office on March 16, according to Sheriff Richard Vaughan.

    The offense dates were Dec. 4, 2017, and Dec. 16, 2017, in the City of Galax.

  • Huff pleads guilty to charges in fatal crash

    HILLSVILLE – Allegations regarding the remnants of a fatal traffic incident have moved forward in Carroll County Circuit Court; proceeding charges that were filed just over two years ago, following a deadly vehicle crash that resulted in a loss of life.
