  • Suspect in custody after deadly trail attack

    Staff Report

    ABINGDON — A suspect is in custody following a deadly machete attack on the Appalachian Trail in Wythe County on May 11.

    According to media reports, two hikers reported that a man with a machete was attacking people on the trail Saturday morning. Two people were attacked, according to police; one died; the other was severely injured.

    Deputies from the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office went to the trial and arrested a suspect, James L. Jordan 30, of West Yarmouth, Mass.

  • Grand jury issues 20 indictments

    INDEPENDENCE – Twenty people were indicted for drug violations and other charges by a Grayson County Circuit Court grand jury that convened April 26.

    Several indictments were sealed and will be opened after the suspects have been arrested.

    Indictments included:

    • Johnny Lee Taylor – obtain money by fraud.

    • Tristan Gage Semones – attempted statutory burglary.

  • Goad named president of Carroll Bar Association

    HILLSVILLE – A local attorney with over 30 years of experience in legal practice is bringing insights aimed at benefitting local taxpayers after being elected president of the Carroll County Bar Association in March.

    Gregory G. Goad, a Carroll native and well-established attorney in Hillsville since 1987, says he has been working diligently to voice local concerns with state representatives in order to ensure that the best interests of Carroll citizens are carried out.
