Lucy Hendrick, age 91, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2024. She was born May 28, 1932. She was preceded in death by parents, Al and Ona Ayers; her husband, Morris C. Hendrick; and daughter, Juanita Hendrick Cocke.
She married Morris C. Hendrick on Dec. 23, 1946. She worked at Doe Run Lodge for over 30 years. Her biscuits were legendary. Her biggest passions were her family, flowers and all of God’s creatures. Lucy always had the ability to make everyone she met feel welcome and right at home.
She was a self-made woman; a Christian woman who was a member of Skyline Independent Baptist Church for 40 years. Lucy lived her life with grace, grit, determination and a lot of SASS, but most of all with love.
Survivors include her daughters, Charlotte Hendrick Sheppard (Curtis), Palma Hendrick (Phil Dunlap) and Marsha Hendrick Brown (David); son-in-law, Paul Cocke; grandchildren, Angela Bowman, Stacey Struck (Tim), Dedra Cocke Whitaker (Chris), Dillon Brown and Daniel Brown, Season Sheppard Burzek (Dan); great grandchildren, Jessica Bowman, Holly Whitaker, Zoie Whitaker, Jocelyn, Ann and Luke Burzek.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life, Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 1-2 p.m. Remarks will be made at 1:30 p.m. Please join us at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, 1035 N. Main Street, Hillsville, Va., to reminisce and honor the life of Lucy Hendrick.
Flowers are welcome. A reception will be held immediately following the ceremony at Hillsville Christian Church.
