Officers made three felony arrests for meth possession in two separate incidents in the city last week, according to reports from the Galax Police Department.
On March 11, Sgt. Shawny Jones and Cpl. Eduardo Mata responded to a residence in the 100 block of Water Wheel Road in reference to reported drug use.
Roberto Quiros, 27, of Galax, agreed to speak to officers and allowed them into the residence, the report said. Mata spotted a tightly rolled bill with heavy white residue suspected to be methamphetamine in plain view on a table. Also on the table was a scale with heavy white residue, also suspected to be methamphetamine.
According to the report, Quiros admitted to snorting methamphetamine out of the bill and had a jacket with another bag of crystals in his possession, which was suspected to be methamphetamine. Officers located more baggies and rolled up bills with residue.
Juan Armenta, 27, of Galax, who also was present, refused to answer questions, but officers observed white residue all over his face and retrieved more crystal-like substances, suspected to be methamphetamine, from a satchel on his person, the report said.
Both subjects were arrested and charged with felony possession of a Schedule I or II substance. Quiros was given a $1,000 secure bond; Armenta was given $1,500 secure bond and both subjects were transported to the New River Valley River Jail.
On March 17, Officer Michael Tozzolo, Cpl. Tyler Garcia and Officer Holly Campbell responded to a business in the 400 block of West Oldtown Street for a report of a person going through a dumpster and removing scrap metal.
While Garcia and Campbell spoke to a man at the scene — who ended up having permission to be on the premises and remove items from the dumpster — Tozzolo saw Jessica Bevins, 40, of Galax, sitting in a vehicle at the same location.
Due to previous encounters, Tozzolo asked her about having any narcotics in her possession, the report said. She stepped out of the vehicle and a pipe wrapped in a bandana was in her seat, from which she admitted to smoking methamphetamine a few hours earlier. Also located on her person was a clear baggie with a crystal substance suspected to be methamphetamine.
Bevins was placed under arrest, given a $2,500 secure bond and transported to the regional jail.
