  • Art school holds grand opening

Many hands sculpted and shaped Chestnut Creek School of the Arts over the past seven years, and finally the finished work was unveiled and celebrated this past weekend.

The Galax art school's two-day grand opening kicked off the evening of April 16, with more than 200 attending a “colorful black tie” gala, touring the art school, getting a first look at the inaugural exhibit and visiting artisan demonstrators.

  • The Fiddle & The Plow

WOODLAWN — If the informality and open discussion encouraged at Woodlawn's new Friday evening musical offerings seem reminiscent of listening to a couple of friends kicking around stories while jamming in the living room, then organizers Willard Gayheart and Scott Freeman will have struck the right chord.

  • Music center now open

The Blue Ridge Music Center will open on Saturday, and live music at the amphitheater will begin on May 28.

The center on the Blue Ridge Parkway celebrates Virginia’s mountain music heritage with exhibits, concerts, presentations and daily musical performances.

The summer concert series for 2010 will include a special weekend of performances celebrating the parkway's 75th anniversary in September.
