Three Grayson towns to hold elections

Town council elections will be held May 1 to fill seats in three Grayson localities.

Three council members and the mayor will be up for election in Independence.

Seeking re-election are Mayor E.F. “Butch” Reeves and three of the six council members whose terms expire June 30 — Tom Maxwell, Buddy Halsey and Jeffery Miller.

Reeves has served as mayor since first being elected in 1998. Maxwell serves as vice-mayor and was appointed to council in 2003.

Joining the incumbents in the council race is one newcomer, Jessica L. Anders.

Seven town council slots are up for election in Fries. Candidates include incumbents Nancy Hawks, Marie Isom, Bill Davis, Jo Ann Gunter, Dawn Patton and Cynthia Grant; and newcomer Frances Annette Boone.

William C. (Bill) Mitchell Jr. has filed for re-election for mayor of Troutdale.

Council member candidates include Samuel J. Pennington, Deborah Reedy Cornett, Scott Lee Cornett, Tina Michelle Delp, Ira Kenneth McGrady Jr., James David McGrady and Sean Ryan “Leprechaun” Baston, according to the Virginia State Board of Elections
