As the U.S. Postal Service will be closed Wednesday for an impromptu federal holiday, Hillsville and Carroll County are making adjustments to their tax deadlines, which are due this week.

On Monday, President Donald Trump proclaimed Dec. 5 as a National Day of Mourning in remembrance of President George H.W. Bush, who passed away last week.

The Town of Hillsville has extended the deadline for postmarking personal property and real estate taxes until Dec. 6. Town Treasurer LeAnna Surratt clarified that the deadline is also extended for payments received in office, and that payments received on Thursday will be considered on time.

In addition, Carroll County announced that a postmarked date of Dec. 6 for 2018 tax payments will be accepted.
