Snead wins 4.99 class at Elk Creek

 ELK CREEK –– It was another exciting weekend of racing at Elk Creek Dragway, with a card that kicked off with the popular ATV race on Friday. Wayne Horton of Hillsville took the win with a final-round 12.93 e.t. at 42 mph. Travis Hash of Independence was in the runner-up spot with a 10.17 e.t. at 51 mph.

Saturday’s show began with the Super Pro Eliminator class, and Independence’s Bobby Hash took the win as his Chevy Camaro blasted its way to a final round 5.43 e.t. at 118 mph. Clinton Snead of Bristol, Tenn., was the runner-up in a Ford EXP, running a 5.00 e.t. at 127 mph.

The R-C Towing and Repair Footbrake Class was won by Johnny Moxley of Galax, driving a Ford Mustang to a 5.67 e.t. at 109 mph. Kevin Flayhart took the runner-up position. The Zionville, N.C., driver steered his Camaro to a 7.43 e.t. at 85 mph.

The winner of the D.O.T. finals was Robbie Copenhaver of Wytheville in a Chevrolet Chevelle with a 9.21 e.t. at 70 mph. Runner-up Robert Neal of Hico, W.Va., turned in a 7.08 e.t. at 88 mph in a Pontiac Firebird.

Jason Halsey took the win in the Junior Dragster class as the Independence driver posted a 7.93 e.t. at 77 mph. J.T. Shrader of Elliston was the runner-up with a 7/95 e.t. at 71 mph.

The Heads-Up 4.99 class winner was Clinton Snead of Bristol, Tenn., as his EXP ran a 5.04 e.t. at 125 mph. David South of Kingsport, Tenn., in a Ford Pinto.

Dale Waller of Fries won the Motorcycle class with a 5.61 e.t. at 108 mph. The runner-up was Michael Waller of Ivanhoe, recording a 5.62 e.t. at 116 mph.
