Searching for Cox relatives in Galax

-A A +A

This photo was taken in Peecher Cemetery, Liberty Township, Ross County, Ohio, on Oct. 27, 2012, when the Spoon River Chapter of NSDAR, based in Williamsfield, Ill., placed an official DAR marker on the grave of Solomon Cox, honoring him as a Revolutionary War patriot.

Solomon Cox was my fifth great-grandfather and I want to let the descendants of Solomon Cox in Galax know that the marker had been placed.
In the 1970s, my mother, Edith Farquer and her cousin, Lucille Cox Maher, visited the Galax area and marked the graves of Enoch Cox (son of Solomon) and his wife, Mary Mackey, in Old Quaker Cemetery in Grayson County. They enjoyed meeting the Cox family in the Galax area at that time.
Sadly, my mother and Lucille have both passed away and I have no addresses for Cox relatives in Galax. I did find an old clipping from The Gazette about a Cox reunion held every year in July. My mother was organizing regent of the Spoon River Chapter of NSDAR, and I am proud to now serve as regent in our 40th year.
I hope this letter will put us in touch once again with relatives in Galax.
I am a descendant of the generations William Cox called in his book, Solomon Cox Of Cole Creek, “those who went west.”
