Never fear: Galax Halloween event still planned

-A A +A

The GDA is still conjuring up the annual night of downtown trick-or-treating, despite rumors of its demise.

By Staff Reports

This year, the Galax Downtown Association (GDA) will still host the city’s annual Halloween celebration, but the merchants’ organization members will make it a community event instead of trying to do it all themselves.

To assist with making this event bigger and better than ever, the GDA is inviting all churches, civic organizations, businesses or individuals to pitch in on the effort to provide a safe Halloween event for the local children.
As with previous years, the downtown streets will be blocked off with a contained area for games, trick-or-treating and fun.
There will not be hot dogs or drinks served by GDA this year, as in years past, but downtown restaurants will be open.
All are invited to attend and participate, and are asked to contact the GDA office to reserve their space.
For those in the community who are not interested in spending their evening out and about, donations of $5 or bags of candy will be accepted at Tuck Chiropractic at 403 N. Main St. on Monday through Friday, or A Place in Time Antique Store at 100 S. Main St. on Monday and Tuesday, and Thursday through Saturday.
All donors will receive a yard sign informing trick-or-treaters to come downtown for their sugar rush.
