Maroon Tide upends Chilhowie girls, 49-32

Galax outscored Chilhowie a combined 25-11 in the first and third quarters last Tuesday to take a 49-32 Conference 46 win in Galax.

Hayden Cassell led Galax (6-5) with 16 points and six rebounds and Essence Brown contributed 10 points. Brown and Shae Foxx also teamed up to grab 17 rebounds.

Carroll County 61, Cave Spring 29: The Cavaliers had no trouble with the Knights in a River Ridge District game Tuesday in Hillsville.

Jumping out to a 14-7 lead after eight minutes, Carroll County (11-1 overall, 6-0 district) gradually pulled out to a 56-21 lead by the start of the fourth quarter.

Keely Lundy drilled five 3-pointers and led the Cavaliers with 17 points and Danielle Gallimore added 10. Reagan Delp paced Cave Spring with seven points.

Four players scored between six and nine points apiece for Grayson County (3-8), led by Lakean Vaught with nine.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Cave Spring 64, Carroll County 53: Baker Haviland and Jake Furrow teamed up to hit seven 3-pointers and score 37 points as the Knights took a River Ridge win Tuesday in Hillsville.

Carroll County (6-6, 1-4) played evenly with league-leading Cave Spring (11-4, 6-1) in the second half but couldn’t overcome a 28-16 halftime deficit despite 28 points from Adam Horton and 14 more from Caden Hodges.

Haviland hit four 3-pointers and scored 20 points for the Knights while Furrow added 17 points.

Chilhowie 58, Galax 30: The Warriors opened up a 14-point first-quarter lead and coasted to the Conference 46 win Tuesday in Galax.

Leading 17-3 after one period of play, Chilhowie pulled out to a 40-13 lead by halftime. Dylan Catron hit 4-of-7 3-pointers and scored 18 points off the bench to lead all scorers. Cade Ashworth scored nine points to lead the Maroon Tide (1-10).
