Now, boxes in both counties have been targeted by vandals

HILLSVILLE – Mailbox vandalism has spread to Carroll County, according to Sheriff J.B. Gardner.

Gardner reported that his office has received several complaints from citizens in different parts of the county about mailboxes being destroyed in recent days.

In Grayson County, the sheriff’s department is offering a $250 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone damaging mailboxes. Sheriff Richard Vaughan said all areas of the county have been hit.

The vandalism began during the night of Nov. 10 in Grayson County and reports are still being received.

Vaughan and Gardner are asking everyone to be extra observant during the night-time hours. Vaughan said the suspect vehicle in Grayson may have a loud exhaust.

The sheriffs issued a warning that damaging mailboxes is a serious offense and anyone arrested could face state and/or federal charges.

Vaughan and Gardner are asking anyone who sees a suspicious vehicle in their area to call the Grayson Sheriff’s Office at (276) 773-3241 or (276) 236-9988, or the Carroll Sheriff’s Office at (276) 730-3020, any time, day or night. Citizens are also asked to try and get a license number.
