The community is invited to join in the festivities at the 12th Annual Galax Leaf and String Festival, “a celebration of music, art and literature,” on Friday and Saturday in downtown Galax.
Local artisans, musicians, authors and chefs will gather downtown to offer those in attendance a varied example of what the area has to offer.
The event will be split into four sections, each located on a different street:

East Grayson Street — “Authors on Grayson” will set up at Chapters Bookshop, featuring tables for local authors to discuss, sell and autograph their books.
Authors scheduled to appear include John Nunn, Judy Nunn Alley, Daniel Morton, Michael Abraham, Karen Hall and many more.
This section will be hosted by Chapters, where customers can go to buy books written by these authors.
A listing of the authors is available at www.chaptersbookshop.com.
Saturday, from 8-10 a.m., a Breakfast With The Authors event will be held at Scoots Restaurant on North Main Street.

West Grayson Street — The Galax Downtown Association will host a variety of food vendors, along with selections of handcrafted beer and draft beer provided by John Ayers of Creek Bottom Brews, and selections of wine provided by Sharon Ritchie of The Wine Cellar.
Gyros, smoked sausages, fresh lemonade, popcorn, cheeseburgers and Philly steaks are just a few of the items that will be available at the event to whet everyone’s appetite.

North Main Street — Chestnut Creek School of the Arts will set up several art demonstrations and crafting booths, featuring creations from many different local artisans.
Visitors will be asked to vote for their favorite designs for their Bass Fiddle Public Art Project.
Vote for up to nine of the 23 designs that have been submitted and see one of the bass fiddle replicas that will be painted.
While at the school, check out the classes that are available and the beautiful items for sale in the vault.
The school is at the corner of Main and Grayson streets, at the center of the Leaf & String Festival activities.

South Main Street — “Music on the Street” hosted by Barr’s Fiddle Shop, will feature local bluegrass and old-time bands.
There are also performances at the historic Rex Theater on East Grayson Street each night.
Scheduled performances at these venues include the Jeanette Williams Band, Loose Strings, Harvest Time, Somewhere In Between, Johnny Williams, Stevie Barr, Adam McPeak and Mountain Thunder, Zephyr Lightning Bolts, Mountain Park Old Time Band, Back Porch Bluegrass and Sugarcreek.
Music events will also include an appearance by the Footloose Cloggers, and a square dance event on Saturday night.
Visitors are also invited to enjoy shopping at downtown businesses, dining at local restaurants, family fun activities and the Galax Farmers Market.
