Daycare facility in Carroll County loses operator, county seeking replacement

By Christopher Brooke, Reporter

HILLSVILLE — Just as new job activity gears up in the Carroll County Industrial Park, Carroll officials have to find a new child care provider for the day care facility there.
About 52 children attend the facility now.
The Industrial Development Authority made affected parents aware of the coming change by letter in November.
“The IDA was shocked to have been notified of the impending closure of the facility on Dec. 15,” County Administrator Gary Larrowe said in the letter. “In response to the notice, the IDA will immediately seek another operator of the facility under favorable terms (such as was offered to Noah’s Ark) and will make every effort possible to have another group in place to take over operations on Dec. 16, 2013.”
The authority has issued a request for proposals for a business to take over the child care center.
Proposals are due by noon on Dec. 4 in the IDA executive director office at the Carroll Governmental Center, 605-1 Pine Street, Hillsville.
Several pieces of information are required in each proposal, including individual/company information, detail of experience in child care business, references, financial reference, a business plan and licensures.
This transition comes soon on the heels of announcements of screen printer Classic Creations hiring 55 and an expansion of Virginia Produce expected to add 75 positions in the same industrial park.
