Gazette welcomes Stockton to staff

Shaina Stockton has joined the staff of The Gazette as the new Galax beat reporter.
Stockton was born and raised in Galax, and says she “had the privilege of growing up right on the Blue Ridge Parkway.”
She fills a vacancy left by April Wright, who left the newspaper Aug. 31 after several years covering the city. Stockton had originally applied to be an intern with the paper, before the full-time position opened up.
Stockton is a student at Radford University, set to graduate this December with a bachelor's degree in media studies with a minor in art.
“We are proud to have Shaina join the staff and look forward to her contributions to the news staff," said Gazette editor Brian Funk. "She brings with her a set of skills that go beyond print journalism, including graphic design, video production, photography and website development, to name a few."
Stockton married her college sweetheart on Nov. 11, 2011, and lives in Fries with him; her three stepchildren; their dogs, Penny and Hope; and her pet rabbit, Sookie.
In addition to writing, Shaina says she loves anything to do with web or graphic design. She spends most of her downtime either learning more about Photoshop or playing Super Nintendo role playing games.
