The Galax Police Department is investigating reports of several vehicles that were entered Sunday night in the West Galax area — including one belonging to a police officer.
According to Chief Rick Clark, small items such as GPS units, game systems and hand-held electronics have been taken, along with cash and some items of clothing.
There were 28 incidents reported as of Tuesday afternoon, Clark said. None of the vehicles were locked.
The incidents occurred on Parkwood Drive, West Stuart Drive, Ernie Pyle Street, Roseland Road, Northview Street and Terrace Lane. One of those vehicles belongs to a Galax police officer, Clark confirmed.
On Monday, police issued an alert for residents of those areas to check their vehicles for tampering or theft.
Anyone who may have seen or heard anything during the night or has information about these thefts is asked to contact the police department at 236-8101 or text “Galax” to TIP411, followed by your information. These text tips are anonymous.
“If anyone remembers seeing a vehicle or person(s) on foot in the area [Sunday] night, remember — if it didn’t seem right, it probably wasn’t,” Clark said.
“Crimes are solved sometimes by the smallest tip that ties everything together.”
