Galax entered the Region 1A West playoffs as the No. 3 seed with 6-4 record and a VHSL rating of 21.50.

The Maroon Tide has won nine straight games since a 1-4 start that included losses to Giles, state quarterfinalists Glenvar and Radford as well as 1A state semifinalist George Wythe. Galax led both Glenvar and Radford with less than 20 seconds to play.

The Maroon Tide faced nine teams in its 10-game regular season that would reach the playoffs, eight of which won at least one postseason game. The ninth was Narrows, which Galax defeated in the first round.

Galax runningback Charles Harris rushed for 139 yards last week, becoming the third different Maroon Tide player in the last three years to rush for 3,000 yards.

Galax averages 39.6 points per game and has allowed an average of 20.3 ppg. During its current winning streak, Galax has outscored its opposition by an average of 46.4 to 15.7

Playoff history

Having made its first playoff appearance in 1985, Galax has reached the postseason each of the last six seasons, winning at least one postseason game each year. The Maroon Tide won 14 straight and advanced to the Group A Division 1 title game in 2011 before falling to Clintwood 33-28 in the finals. This is the second state championship game appearance in school history.
