The staff of Creek Bottom Brewing Company in Galax is raising money to help the children of the late Ashley Lanier, according to Caci Higgins, one of Lanier’s former coworkers.

Anyone who would like to donate can do so at the GoFundMe link listed below; at the Ashley Lanier Fund set up by Creek Bottom Brewing, at any Skyline National Bank location; at both Creek Bottom Brewing locations in Galax and at the Go with the Flow Music & Brewfest in Fries this Saturday.

Lanier died in an automobile accident in the early morning of June 13. She left behind two daughters, Kynleigh Wren Brewer, 6, and Kya Rayne Brewer, 10. Higgins says the children are currently with their father.

Higgins says her wife, Alexis Higgins, first came up with the idea for a GoFundMe campaign, but Creek Bottom is very happy to help.

“Ashley was part of our best friend circle, which included myself, Alexis, Nicci Wyndham, Taylor Fette and Danielle Walker,” all Creek Bottom employees, says Higgins. “But she had close ties to everyone at CBB.”

They decided to start a fundraiser for both the practical purpose of helping the children and to honor Lanier’s memory.

“She was a staple at CBB,” says Higgins. “She had been there a long time and was a loving spirit to all. Not just our crew, but to anyone who walked through the doors. I know she considered her coworkers more like her family.”

Her children “were well known to us. She went to Little Bottom [Creek Bottom’s location on Meadow Street] with them almost every Tuesday, because she was off work at Big Bottom [the restaurant’s Country Club Lane location],” says Higgins. “And she was SO close to her girls. Loved them with everything she had.”

Higgins hopes the fundraising will prove fruitful for Lanier’s children, but the loss will echo for a long time. “The other employees, they are my family,” says Higgins. “And Ashley was our best friend.”
