Fading Memories

As long as I can remember I have always been fascinated by old buildings, barns and old houses.  Just something about them has always brought out my curiosity.  Wondering who might have lived there, what life was like when they were there and how life must have been so different for them.

It’s almost impossible to imagine a world without computers, i-pods, cell phones or even electricity and running water.  To think that these barns and buildings were once the center of a family’s livelihood as well as the place they grew up and learned their skills for life is amazing to me.

So many now are just abandoned, setting there silently settling into the past.  Unfortunately, we are slowly losing our past also with each passing of one of our senior citizens – for it is with them the actual memories of these buildings, barns and houses lie.  Just imagine the stories they could tell if we just take a few minutes out of our busy lives to just sit and listen.  I remember stories my mom used to tell that would outdo any script that Hollywood could ever come up with.
