Shortly after the reservists returned home, Staff Sgt. Jay Kincanon, a U.S. Army journalist, collected stories from the members of the 424th for an article in the Garrison Gazette.

The 424th is the only transportation company in Southwest Virginia, so it attracts members from all over ― not just the Twin Counties. They come from North Carolina, South Carolina, Washington D.C., Richmond, Roanoke and West Virginia.
