Cavaliers roll in Southwest opener

 Six Carroll County hitters combined for 61 kills Tuesday as the Cavaliers knocked off Richlands 25-10, 25-11, 25-27, 25-19 in a Southwest District volleyball match in Richlands.

Maleah Neely (16 kills), Dionna Reece (13), Sarah Singleton and Lauren Roper (12 each) all had a big night for Carroll County (7-0 overall, 1-0 district).

Neely and Reece served for four aces each, Reece with 21 service points and Neely with 20. Lauren Roper had nine blocks, Honesty Rogers came up with 22 digs and Lindsey Davidson had 11 digs for Carroll. Neely put up 22 assists and Morgan Dickens added 15.

Galax def. Floyd 3-0:The Maroon Tide won its 11th straight match with a 25-15, 25-18, 25-22 nondistrict win Wednesday in Galax.

Allison White had 12 kills, four blocks, three digs and four service points and Bailey Shumate added five kills, 11 digs, 12 assists and seven serving points for the Maroon Tide (11-1).

Galax jumped out to big early leads in the first two sets before rallying from being down 13-10 in the third.

Grace Wilson chipped in with nine assists while Kelsey Reedy and Kaitlin Porter combined for 13 digs. Kemberlea Simmons put away six kills for Galax.

Galax def. Narrows 3-1:The Maroon Tide battled back from a first-set loss to take down the Green Wave 23-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-13 in a Mountain Empire District match Thursday in Narrows.

White totaled 18 kills, 10 digs and five blocks for Galax, which got 13 kills and 16 assists from Shumate, plus 20 assists and five digs from Wilson.

Galax improved to 12-1, 3-0 in the district with the win.
