Carroll Special Olympics in tournament play

 BLACKSBURG –– Cassell Coliseum was full of athletes, partners and family members from Carroll County Special Olympics recently as the Carroll County team participated in the Southwest Regional tournament at Virginia Tech.


CCSO played a part in the opening ceremony as Kyle Nester was a torchbearer and LaRae Hall and Brittany Willard were in front of the crowd to deliver a challenge to the fans. Teams of all abilities from as far away as Lynchburg played in the day-long tournament. 

Carroll County Special Olympics also participated in a tournament in Pulaski on March 8. More than 100 team members and fans made the trip for the 9th annual invitational tournament for Special Olympics.

Carroll Special Olympics took first place in three divisions and placed third in another division, along with claiming first place in skills.

Fast-paced games went on throughout the day as teams from Roanoke, the New River Valley, Lynchburg, Pulaski and Carroll took part in the competition.

The team wrapped up its tournament schedule with an event at Roanoke College in Salem on Sunday.
