Four hearings will be held at supervisors’ meeting on Monday

By Staff Reports

HILLSVILLE – The Carroll County Board of Supervisors will conduct four public hearings at its June 9 meeting.
The hearings include:
• The supervisors will accept public comments concerning the transfer of Woodlawn School to the Industrial Development Authority (IDA).
The Carroll County School Board closed Woodlawn School in 2013 and transferred the building and grounds to the supervisors.  The supervisors have previously sought public input as to potential uses of the facility; however no definite plans have been made.
• A hearing will be held to repeal Article V of Chapter 221 of the Carroll County Code, to allow the commissioner of the revenue the opportunity to carry out the full duties of the commissioner as identified in the Code of Virginia.
The repeal of this Article will dissolve the assessor’s office and allow Carroll County to come in line with the majority of other counties throughout the Commonwealth.
• A hearing will be held to amend the fiscal year 2014 budget to include revenue and expenditure additions in an amount not to exceed $1.2 million.
• Carroll County, Grayson County and the City of Galax are proposing to submit an application to modify the current Enterprise Zone, as well as designating a portion of the county as a joint Enterprise Zone with Grayson County and the City of Galax.
The public hearings will begin at 5:30 p.m. or as soon as practical in the board room at the Carroll County Governmental Complex.
Anyone planning to make comments at the hearings is asked to sign their name on the signup sheet located at the entrance to the board room.
All hearing information may be viewed in the office of the county administrator.
