HILLSVILLE – Carroll County Public Schools have named a new middle school principal, while the high school principal continues recovering from a double lung transplant.

Dana H. Burnette has been named principal of Carroll County Middle School.

Brunette has served previously as the assistant principal at CCMS and has been an educator for the Carroll County Public School system for more than 25 years.

Burnette received a bachelor of science degree in English education from Radford University in 1991, and completed a master of science in English from the Radford University in 1996.

Her most recent accomplishment was completing the Principal Education Program in Educational Leadership from Radford University in 2006.

In a biography published on the Carroll County Public School’s website, Burnette states, “I am very proud of our school system and the educational opportunities we provide for the children of Carroll County. At CCMS, we are dedicated to helping out children reach their highest potential as expressed in our country-wide mission statement of ‘Education for All… Success for Everyone.’”

Despite this year’s obstacles, Charles T. Thompson remains the principal at Carroll County High School.

A journal entry on caringbridge.org from July 9 marked two months since a successful double lung transplant. Chuck remains diligent in his recovery efforts, and continues to set personal goals for improvement each day, the journal said.

The entry confirmed that his walking distance continues to get further and his time without a ventilator has also been increasing.

Roland Hall is acting as interim principal in Thompson’s absence.
