    Galax had six wrestlers post top-four finishes Saturday and took second place in the team standings at it own Maroon Tide Invitational wrestling tournament. Wrestling without starters in five weight classes, the Maroon Tide still managed to place three in the championship round.

    Seventeen Twin County football players earned all-region honors recently, including one repeat choice as a first-team pick. Zack Surratt of Carroll County was a first-team all-Region IV defensive back for the second straight year, finishing second on the team with 50 unassisted tackles and 28 assists.

     CHILHOWIE -- Eric Harvey and Steven Eller combined for 52 points as Grayson County whacked Chilhowie 79-65 in a nondistrict game Tuesday.

     HILLSVILLE -- Carroll County used a 24-0 run in the first half to take command and rolled to a 57-19 win over Galax in a nondistrict girls’ game Wednesday.

    HILLSVILLE -- Kayla Goins was unaware that she was about to score the 1,000th point of her career, and once the magic number was reached she barely paused long enough to give the game ball off to a family member before returning to the court.
