     BASTIAN -- Grayson County picked a pretty opportune time to begin kicking its PATs again.

  • Cavs run over Grundy

    HILLSVILLE -- Carroll County’s first team offense scored on every possession and the Cavaliers remained undefeated in the Southwest District with a convincing 42-14 Southwest District victory Friday over Grundy at Tommy Thompson Field. It took Carroll County (6-2 overall, 4-0 SWD) just 23 plays to score five touchdowns on its first five possessions.

  • Covington spoils Tide's...

    Covington drove 77 yards in a little more than three minutes to spoil Galax’s homecoming, taking a 30-26 nondistrict win Friday over the Maroon Tide. Galax (1-7), which led 26-16 entering the fourth quarter, was stopped near midfield and punted to the Cougar 23-yard line with 4:39 remaining, holding on to a 26-22 lead.

  • BRCC ladies close '09 season

     The Ladies’ Golf Association of Blue Ridge Country Club ended its 2009 season with its annual Memorial Tournament, awards presentation and banquet on Oct. 3. Earlier in the season, a Solheim Tournament was held in which association members were grouped into an ‘American’ team and a ‘European’ team. The Americans won and were therefore served their meal by the Europeans during the banquet.

  • Reedy’s win lifts Team...

    WAYNESBORO -- Defending Southern Bracket Racing Association national champion Team Elk Creek Dragway stormed back to win the 2009 points championship, taking the title over Colonial Beach Dragway in a tiebreaker. For the finals last Sunday under sunny skies, the race began to turn into a battle between Colonial Beach and Elk Creek, with Colonial beach blowing out in the late rounds.

  • Cavaliers move to 10-0 in SWD...

     HILLSVILLE -- Carroll County ran its record to 10-0 in the Southwest District, rolling past Graham 25-14, 25-11, 25-21 Tuesday.

  • Galax marches closer to MED title

    Galax drew to within one match of a perfect run through its Mountain Empire District volleyball schedule, bouncing back from a first-set loss to knock off Narrows 22-25, 25-15, 25-8, 25-19 last Thursday in Galax. “We would love to finish the season 8-0 in the district,” said Maroon Tide coach Rose Houk after her team improved to 14-4 overall, 7-0 in the district.

  • Devils seeking new streak

    INDEPENDENCE -- Having ended one streak, Grayson County would like nothing better than to start a new one, this time one of a different sort. Coming off a bye week that followed the end of a 17-game slide, the Blue Devils will look for their second straight win this week when they return to action with a Mountain Empire District game Friday at Bland County.
