    RADFORD -- Brent Bell of Galax got off to a great start defending his track championship, winning the first two Street Stock events of the 2010 season at Motor Mile Speedway. Bell won the Cintas 150 Saturday at Motor Mile, qualifying on the pole and holding off Barry Gregory for the win. Bell opened the season with a win on April 3.

    Galax was all over the Green Wave early, leading 11-0 after three innings and taking a 15-5 win in a Mountain Empire District baseball game Wednesday in Felts Park. Michael Bond went 3-for-4, driving in five runs for Galax (7-2, 1-0).

    Galax and Grayson County each used late-inning outbursts and took advantage of shaky defense to post runaway wins on the baseball field Friday afternoon.     Galax swept the first full Mountain Empire District track and field meet of the year, taking both the boys’ and girls’ team victories Wednesday at Galax High School. With four MED teams plus Carroll County competing, the Maroon Tide boys breezed to their team win with 158 points, easily outdistancing runner-up Carroll County’s 74 points.
