There&rsquo;s the all-out blur of the 4x100 sprint relay, the disciplined pace of the longer 4x800 and the grab bag format of the medley relay. After all, it&rsquo;s taken him more than 50 years to walk away from a ballfield.</span></p> <p> A player through youth leagues, middle school, high school and at Pfeiffer College, then a coach in the Carroll County system since 1980, Tompkins has spent just about every spring of his life on a baseball diamond.
