  • Britt, Wooten win club championships

    Sherrill Britt of West End, N.C., held off two other golfers to win the 51st Annual Blue Ridge Country Club Invitational recently.

    Britt fired a 5-under par 65 on Saturday and 67 on Sunday for a 132 total. Second place went to Brock Cox of Galax with rounds of 68-65–133 and third place to Brad Chambers of Galax, with rounds of 66-68–134.

  • Blue Ridge ladies hold member-guest

    Blue Ridge Country Club hosted its Member-Member, Member-Guest tournament last Tuesday with a six-six-six format that included six holes of best ball, six holes of alternating shot and six holes of captain’s choice.

  • Blue Ridge ladies host tournaments

     The Ladies’ Golf Association of Blue Ridge Country Club held its Ladies Championship and Net Tournament on August 23-24 and its Ladies’ Invitational on Aug. 19.

    In the two-day, stroke play championship and net tournament, Judy Chambers shot an 81 in her opening round and came back with a 78 on the second day to win the championship with a two-day total of 159. Trish Golding placed second with an 88-86–174.

  • Britt, McBayer win BRCC tournament

    Sherrill Britt rolled in a birdie putt on the 17th hole to break a three-way tie for first place and win the annual Member-Member, Member-Guest golf tournament held at Blue Ridge Country Club in Galax recently.

    Britt and partner Frank McBayer were tied with two other teams, Brad Chambers-James Williams and Brock Cox-Dustin Thompson,  at 12-under par when he dropped the winning putt. The teams parred the 18th hole to give Britt-McBayer the win at 13-under with rounds of 64-63 and a 127 total.

  • Blue Ridge C.C. ladies hold member-guest event

    The Ladies Golf Association at Blue Ridge Country Club hosted its annual member-member, member-guest tournament on July 25, with 32 area golfers participating in the Texas scramble format.

    Blue Ridge’s Judy Chambers teamed with Chris Hale of Giles to shoot a 65 and take first place in the championship flight by four strokes over the runner-up team of Jackie Butler (BRCC) and Becky Guynn (Galax).

    In third place was the tandem of Bertha Nunley (Blue Ridge) and Cindy Salyer (Floyd) with a 70, followed by Alice Hill (BRCC) and Diana Nunley (Pulaski) at 73.

  • Wilson records hole-in-one at Galax Municipal G.C.

     Herb Wilson recorded a hole-in-one recently while playing at Galax Municipal Golf Course.

    Wilson aced the par-3, 145-yard ninth hole while playing a round with Press Turbyfill, Dale Kerns and Ken Cooper.

  • Chambers chosen for Virginia-West Virginia team matches

     Brad Chambers of Galax is among a group of 14 golfers chosen to represent Virginia in the 28th Virginia-West Virginia team matches scheduled for The Greenbrier Sporting Club’s Snead Course on April 16-17.

    Chambers, the reigning VSGA public links champion, will join Tim Kelley of Ashland, Ben Keefer of Glen Allen, Roger Newsom of Virginia Beach, Allen Barber of Yorktown, Mike Kirby of Falls Church, Lee Fisher of Altavista and Jake Mondy of Blacksburg. Monday is the VSGA junior stroke play champion and is the youngest member of the team at 18.

  • BRCC ladies close 2010 season

     The Blue Ridge Country Club Ladies’ Golf Association ended its 2010 season with its annual Memorial Tournament, and Mary Jane Carico was the tournament champion with a net score of 67.

  • Opening-round 66 propels Hiatt to Blue Ridge title

     Brad Hiatt took the first day lead and made it stand up on Sunday to win the 47th annual Blue Ridge Country Club Invitational held Aug. 20-21.

    Hiatt shot a 4-under 66 on Sunday and closed it out with a 1-under 69 on Sunday for a 135.

    Three golfers shot a 139 and after scorecards were matched, second place went to James Williams with rounds of 68-71 and third place to defending champion Brad Chambers, 67-72. Kenny Hiatt was the third golfer to shoot a 139.

  • Chambers wins links title

     LORTON –– Brad Chambers’ 300-plus mile trek from Galax to Northern Virginia proved to be well worth the journey.

    The 29-year-old southwest Virginian won two of the final three holes in the championship final to score a 2-up victory over Greg Morrison, 42, of Centreville to claim the 7th Virginia State Golf Association Public Links Championship Aug. 30 at Laurel Hill Golf Club.
