  • REMEMBER WHEN: December 14-20
     2009 Grayson County scored 53 second-half points and ran away from Floyd County 77-69. Eric Harvey scored 26 points for Grayson, which got 16 from Tyler Rutherford, 14 from Bubba Bowen and 12 from Steven Eller. Kayla Goins scored 25 points and topped 1,000 for her career as Carroll County got past Pulaski County 57-52. The Cavaliers rallied from seven points down in the third period for the win.   2004
  • REMEMBER WHEN: November 9-15
     2009 Carroll County earned its 16th straight region tournament appearance by sweeping the Southwest District volleyball tournament with 3-0 wins over Richlands and Tazewell. Galax broke open a tight game with 21 second-half points and ended its season with a 35-6 win over Narrows. Jordan Vaughan rushed for 197 yards and a pair of scores for the Maroon Tide.   2004
  • REMEMBER WHEN: November 2-8
     2009 Galax picked up its first MED win, knocking off Bland County 20-6. Terrance Mazon was 14-of-20 for 210 yards and Jordan Vaughan scored two TDs and rushed for 185 yards for Galax. Grayson County outgained Narrows 347-65 in a 35-7 win over the Green Wave. Seven Blue Devils combined for 194 rushing yards and Ethan Hash threw for another 153 yards.   2004
  • REMEMBER WHEN: October 26-November 1
    2009 Carroll County scored five touchdowns in its first 23 plays, hammering Grundy 42-14. Five different Cavaliers had at least one TD each, including Ulisis Moreno, who scored twice and was 6-of-6 on PATs. Covington rallied from 10 points down in the fourth quarter, driving 77 yards in the final four minutes for a 30-26 win over Galax.  Grayson County attempted its first PAT kick in more than two years, and Mario Ruiz’s boot was true as the Blue Devils nipped Bland County 7-6.
  • Remember When: October 19-25
     2009 Carroll County survived a last-second field goal attempt to edge Marion 14-13. Carroll got a defensive score but was held to 6 rushing yards and two first downs in the first half, finally taking the lead on Blake Bowman’s 21-yard pass to Jonathan Snow. Marion completed eight passes to move from its own 6 to the Carroll 27 in the final two minutes before missing a 45-yard field goal attempt.
  • Carroll County-Galax alumni basketball game planned for Nov. 1
     The Carroll County High School boys’ basketball program will host a Carroll vs. Galax alumni basketball game at 7 p.m. on Nov. 1 at CCHS as a fundraisier for the team.
  • Galax 5K has been running 25 years
    Blue skies with puffy clouds and a crisp wind characterized the weather for the 25th Annual Twin County Regional Healthcare Galax Autumn Days 5K Run last Saturday. The race, which started and ended in Felts Park, with a circuit extending through part of downtown Galax, drew past competitors and new entrants. After registering and receiving number tags, the runners awaited the race eagerly.

     2009 Grayson County scored twice on safeties in the first half, providing the difference in a 16-14 win over Galax. The win snapped the Blue Devils’ 17-game losing streak. Carroll County attempted one pass while rushing for 360 yards, including 183 by Dillon Caviness, in a 26-7 win at Abingdon. 2004
  • REMEMBER WHEN: September 21-27
     2009 Two long scoring plays were the difference as Galax snapped an 0-4 skid to start the season with  13-0 win at Craig County. Deion George hauled in a 58-yard TD pass and Jordan Vaughan added a 31-yard scoring run.   Dillon Caviness scored three rushing touchdowns as Carroll County ran past Grayson County 25-6. Zack Surratt added an 85-yard kickoff return for a Cavalier score.   2004
  • REMEMBER WHEN: September 14-20
     2009 Carroll County avenged its only loss of the season by taking down Floyd County 3-1 in volleyball. Jessi Goad served for 27 points for the Cavaliers. Maleah Neely had 14 assists, including six aces.   Carroll County trailed Christiansburg 10-7 in the fourth quarter before the Blue Demons pulled away for a 23-7 win.   2004
