  • Fix tax problem in Carroll

There is a wrong in the Carroll County statutes that needs to be made right. Personal property tax is being levied on vehicles that are no longer registered or garaged in Carroll County.
Those who move from Carroll County must pay personal property tax in their new county before their vehicles can be registered. Yet Carroll County levies the full year of tax on those same vehicles if they were registered in the county on Jan. 1.

  • Voters made a mistake

On Nov. 6, 2012, the people of the United States made the worst and most deadly decision in the history of the country.
Our Founding Fathers based this country’s foundation on God’s word.
Then the people put back in office a so-called Christian president, Obama. This was a complete slap in God’s face.
The two strongest abominations were upheld. They are abortion, which is the murder of innocent children, and the backing of homosexuals.
Do you think God is going to bless us now? Not by a long shot.

  • Helping Backpack Buddies

I would like to express my appreciation toward the wonderful mission of supplying food to less fortunate children that the Galax Backpack Buddies Program and that all Backpack Buddies Programs take on.
My family and I volunteer with Galax Backpack Buddies so I get to witness firsthand the efforts put on by the numerous volunteers each week.
Volunteers pack and deliver the backpacks to the Galax schools by hand.

  • Angel Tree donors thanked

On behalf of all the third-shift associates at the Galax Walmart Supercenter, I thank the following local businesses for contributions to help raise funds for this year’s Angel Tree project:
Blue Ridge Lanes, Porky’s, County Line Café, Bojangle's, Rio Grande, RJ’s Pizza, Ciro’s of Galax, Tony’s Brick Oven Pizza, Stingray’s, Pizza Plus, Arby’s, Jasper Lures, plus many individual gifts.
With this support we were able to sponsor six angels as opposed to the four we normally help.

  • Letters from Boy Scout Troop 188

The following letters were submitted by Boy Scouts with Troop 188 in Galax:

    Bland lunches are wasted

  • Eminent domain makes citizen feel helpless

    By Sandra J. Felts, Woodlawn

  • Wind energy important to county's future

By Erica Largen of Dugspur and Lauren Peery of Laurel Fork

  • Conflict questions still unanswered

The Carroll County administrator’s response to Supervisor Bob Martin’s effort to end the conflict of interest controversy was disturbing.
Little things, like Mr. Larrowe referring to events as recent as 2010 as occurring “many, many years ago.”
And big things, like his statement: “I… hate that some people have jumped off the team, and that is disappointing to me, Mr. Martin.”
What “team” did he mean — the Larrowe support team?
