  • Many questions about terrorism weren't asked

Many things have happened, both good and bad.
There are questions that should have been asked and answered years ago.
It is recalled there was much merriment when some foreign-born students at a flight school only wanted to know how to control the aircraft once airborne. No instruction on takeoffs, landings or other fine arts of flying was needed.
Did this not create the slightest curiosity on anyone’s part? Was this not reported to the FAA or the FBI? Surely it was and a follow-up warranted.

  • Government shouldn't legalize foreign criminals

Legalization of these illegal Mexican criminals, the last defiance against the American people.
It will happen and it will be the final nail for society and any future for the American people.
No one has any idea how many Mexicans have already criminally entered our country, but there is no doubt that the numbers are now reaching 100 million.
With millions of Mexican anchor babies at your expense, with them taking over our schools, the American children are being cheated of their legal and rightful education as real American citizens in their own country.

  • Strengthen open government laws

In Virginia, if you want to know what the State Police found investigating the worst mass murder in U.S. history, or what the consultants Hampton taxpayers hired to look into a proposed aquatics center found, or what Newport News council members had to say about the city manager's performance last year, you're out of luck.

If you were a parent up in Staunton wondering about the financial management that allowed a school bookkeeper to embezzle thousands from an account holding student-raised funds for extracurricular activities, too bad.

  • 'Take a break from interstate' road market a success

Many thanks go out to those who helped make the Independence leg of the Take a Break from the Interstate Road Market a huge success.
Thank you to the vendors and buyers who lined the U.S. 21 route. Thanks to the members of the Independence Police and Grayson County Sheriff’s Department, along with the Virginia Department of Transportation, who kept everyone safe during the three day market.

  • Allow cut teachers to reapply for jobs

It’s no secret in today’s society that lack of employment continues to be a nagging source of stress for families, especially in small communities like ours. Job scarcity is especially difficult for families in this area, many of whom make the difficult choice to relocate away from their families and friends just for the opportunity to gain employment.

  • Factory chicken farming contributes to disease

The U.S. egg industry is reeling from a colossal outbreak of avian flu, mostly among egg-laying chickens.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 48 million birds, accounting for 11 percent of the nation’s egg-laying hens, have been slaughtered for fear of infection during the past few months.
The effects are far-reaching, from how to dispose of millions of potentially infected bird carcasses to job losses and rapidly rising egg prices. More than 40 countries have restricted U.S. poultry imports.

  • Common sense is the best safety measure

Interstate 77 has proven to be an asset to Carroll County and surrounding communities by bringing tourists and potential residents by the thousands.

With the high level of traffic comes a more immediate responsibility to impose and enforce traffic safety measures.

  • Contemplating the state of the world today

Within our society today is the good, the bad and the very ugliest of a human being. The resent horrible incidents where innocent lives were lost by cowardly acts of violence, from a church shooting to a young woman walking with her father gunned down and five military soldiers killed so brutally by an evil hand.
This inept attitude shown by this government’s clearly shows and proves that the real world has not bitten it in the butt.
Playing patty-cake and sucking up to foreign leaders who hate us is beyond stupid.
