Letters

  • Sheriff's office is professionally run

I usually don't write letters, I just live and let live.

But I am writing regarding John Duvall's letter. He basically said everything I had to say about Sheriff Vaughan. It is so nice to have such a professionally-run sheriff's office.

  • Sheriff should be non-partisan

Four years ago my wife and I voted for the Republican candidate for Grayson County sheriff.

  • Candidate not qualified for job

On Dec. 1, 2010, I was in a head-on collision on Virginia 89 and Mark Burnett responded with the Galax Fire Department.

He knew it was me, Kyle Billings.
I was flown to Baptist Medical Center.

  • School safety never threatened

I have been a Grayson County Deputy Sheriff for 14 years and was assigned as a school resource officer by Sheriff Richard Vaughan in 2007. I served at Grayson County Career and Technical Education Center for 2010-2011.

  • Littrell has proven himself worthy

Four years ago, I voted for Tom Littrell as my choice for Carroll County supervisor from Pipers Gap District.

I knew with his background in so many areas he would prove himself worthy. He has done the job I expected and I encourage you to vote for him in the upcoming elections on Nov. 8.

  • Burnett would put citizens first

I’m looking forward to the Nov. 8 election. While there will be several choices for several offices on the ballot, I’m focused primarily on the election for sheriff of Grayson County.

  • Victim's family endorses sheriff

My husband and I are the parents of Brandon Billings, who was murdered nine years ago this month.

The first five years after Brandon’s murder, dealing with the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department was unbelievable.

  • Vote Gallimore in Pine Creek

This letter is in support of Olen Gallimore, candidate for school board from Carroll County's Pine Creek District.

I have known Mr. Gallimore for 30 years, and am convinced that he will be an effective school board member.

Mr. Gallimore operates a successful business. His experience in personnel management, goal setting, policy development and budgeting has prepared him for the challenges that a school board member faces.

  • Keep Grayson sheriff in office

Sheriff Richard Vaughan, in his time in office, has increased the number of arrests, updated standards for staff and deputies and increased the patrol area and responsibilities.

Sheriff Vaughan's content of character, ethics, integrity, absence of politics in office, equitable and consistent standards of law are most uncommon.

In the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, there is a very good man. Keep him there.

    John Burnett

  • Burnett is a dedicated officer

I would like to comment on the upcoming election in Grayson County. We have a unique opportunity to elect the most dedicated law enforcement official I have ever seen — Mark Burnett.

He will make our sheriff's department the best it can possibly be.
