• Hutchins has proven leadership skills

Politics is ugly. Politics can be vindictive.
Politics can be about personal aspirations to settle a score?  A score that is often unwarranted and ill-founded.
Where do you stand as a voter? Intermingled with the personal politics? Or do you care about seeing Carroll County move forward?
Or, would you bet your vote on someone who has not held public office? A gamble not worth taking! We have seen firsthand a community organizer turned politician?

  • Re-elect Herrington as Grayson court clerk

Please consider casting your vote for Susan Herrington for clerk of Grayson County Circuit Court.
While serving as a real estate title examiner in Southwest Virginia for almost 25 years, I have had the opportunity to observe Ms. Herrington’s work as a deputy clerk, then chief deputy, and finally, for the past eight years as clerk.
Her thoroughly modern approach to accomplishing the many and varied tasks assigned to the clerk makes her
office an especially efficient place to do research.

  • Are we on the road to another war?

We are now dealing with the aftermath of long, costly wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
We have expended money and lives to achieve nothing, except perhaps the collapse of both countries. Blame is being promulgated about responsibility, particularly for the debacle in Iraq.
Much of this comes from Republican candidates for president who condemn President Obama for pulling our troops out of Iraq.
None of them learned from Vietnam that military might does not ensure victory when we support corrupt regimes. That was true in Vietnam, and it is true in Iraq.

  • Writer endorses Goad for Carroll court clerk

I am thrilled that my dear friend Gerald Goad is running for Clerk of Circuit Court in Carroll County.
I know that Carroll County will be in good hands by putting Gerald in a leadership position.
I hate politics, so you’ll rarely hear me comment on them, but when you’re dealing with a guy like Gerald, one can’t help but be in his corner.
He is one of the most pure-hearted and morally driven people I have known and to have him in office serving the community he loves would only prove beneficial.

  • Obama secretly trying to destroy America

I am sending this letter in hopes of opening the American eyes and mind.
This is a first for me to write to a newspaper, but I had to try something because as I tried to write Congress I got no response whatsoever. When do we take charge of our country again?
It has been brought to my attention that President Obama is a Muslim, not a Christian as he professed to be. If you want proof, just look at Youtube and you will see what I saw for myself and heard with my own ears: Obama admitting he was a Muslim.

  • Work together to keep training center open

If one person’s faith can move a mountain and one David can slay Goliath, just imagine what an entire community could accomplish if it worked together to pursue a goal. Nothing would be impossible.
For almost four years, families of Southwestern Virginia Training Center residents have waged a battle to save their loved ones’ home — truly a David and Goliath battle.

  • There are many reasons to vote for Trump

Why should everyone vote for Trump? Many good reasons.
For instance. The media hates him and wants to “tell us” who is a viable candidate, who is qualified and who to vote for.
The establishment in Washington hates him, all of them. He is so politically incorrect. He doesn’t “know” as much as they think he should know.
But look where the “know it alls” in Washington have gotten us so far. We need a leader with a real backbone. And a little energy (for work instead of golf).

  • Sheriff appreciates support from county

I certainly appreciate all the kind words, cards and messages about my recent installation as Virginia Sheriffs’ Association president.
I can assure you, it was a team effort. It would not be possible for me to serve in a leadership position without the professional, dedicated staff that we currently have serving in Grayson County. Many thanks to the board of supervisors, county administration, department heads and those of you working on the front line day and night.
I am proud to be a member of the Grayson County Team.
Thanks for all that you do!

  • Writer thanks person who paid for her meal

I would like to thank the person that paid for my meal at Porky’s Restaurant in Galax on Sept. 23.
I don’t know who you were, but may God bless you, and thanks again.

  • Chickens are suffering for egg production

McDonald’s pledge last week to start using cage-free eggs is only a small step in preventing staggering suffering endured by millions of birds.
Hatcheries that annually supply 200 million female hens for U.S. egg production, including cage-free, also kill the same number of male chicks at birth by grinding them up alive in industrial macerators or suffocating them slowly in plastic garbage bags.
The female laying hens endure a lifetime of misery, crammed with fix to six others, in small wire-mesh cages that cut into their feet and tear out their feathers.
