  • Hospital provided excellent care

I recently was a patient in the outpatient department of Twin County Regional Hospital for a eye cataract removal.
I had excellent care from every person of the department.
Also, Dr. Davis and his staff was excellent. I give the department and Dr. Davis an A+.
I believe if more people would try the hospital’s services, they would not want to go to other hospitals.
l think, or rather know, that the hospital does great work.

  • Donors thanked for Safe Routes success

As Galax’s Safe Routes to School program winds up its first school year of teaching students about walking and riding bikes to school, we would like to thank the following for their support:
The City of Galax, its council and staff; Galax City Public Schools administration, board and staff; New River Trail State Park staff; parents who participated; Twin County Regional Healthcare and local businesses who donated services and products, including Main Street Bike Shop, George’s Cones and Coffee, Walmart and Durospin.

  • Fries could be goldmine with better plan

The recent Gazette editorial encouraging Fries Town Council to revisit the master plan for revitalization was spot on.
For Fries to flourish economically, it must first embrace its history and scenic beauty to attract tourist dollars rather than immediately redefine itself as a site for industrial opportunism.
Successful marketing of existing strengths will grow the economy, elevate community visibility, and attract appropriate business ventures rather than suffer at the mercy of a hodge-podge of disconnected businesses.

  • The U.S. government vs. the American people

The hullabaloo over crossing the red line when it comes to radical nations’ leaders who kill their own people to stay in power.
Talk, excuses and vacation time is the norm for this government.
Here in our own backyard and government are agencies rife with abuse, incompetence, emptiness, stupidity and political favors.
From the way our veterans are treated back from war, to the IRS, National Security Agency and Environmental Protection Agency (run by a bunch of morons), the CIA — all lost in the land of Oz.

  • Medical marijuana should be legalized

Medicare, Medicaid, private party insurance, the (Un)Affordable Care Act, various charities for various ills, strange world indeed.
Police funding from asset forfeiture from drug arrests, used to buy more weapons, body armor and crime scene equipment.
All while there is a bill, HR 4498 put forward by Rep. Morgan Griffith (R‑Va) in Congress to allow states to appropriately use marijuana for health care. Yes indeed it is a strange world.

  • EPA should regulate meat industry emissions

I am delighted that the Environmental Protection Agency has finally moved to abate the disastrous impacts of climate change by regulating carbon dioxide emissions from power plants.
But, given the adverse reaction from the coal industry, the agency should have issued parallel regulations on emissions from meat industry operations.
Each state could than determine its own optimal strategy for curbing greenhouse gases.

  • Community thanked for food drive donations

On behalf on the Carroll County Ministerial Association’s Community Food Bank, I thank everyone who contributed to the recent food drive at our local post offices.
I also thank individuals and churches in Carroll County who support our food bank through donations.
Your generosity is helping those in our community who are “food insecure,” those who must make a choice between buying food or getting needed prescriptions re-filled, and those who are down and out and just need to know someone cares.
Thank you and God bless you.

  • Encourage Carson to run for president

I ask everyone who reads this letter to let Dr. Ben Carson know that you want him to run for president.
Americans are clamoring for him to run, from every state in the U.S.
Without a doubt he will be the only Republican candidate who can beat Hillary Clinton.

  • Trash removal service is unfair in Fries

I would like to address the inequities of the trash removal service in the Fries part of Grayson County.
I reside in an area for which the weekly pickup date is Monday. Because a majority of holidays are celebrated on Mondays, no pickup service is provided on those days nor is an alternate day scheduled.
We are forced to accumulate trash for two weeks which not only is a hardship but which also attracts rodents and larger wildlife to our trash.
I tried using a bigger trash container but the trash collectors placed a label on it saying that it was too large.

  • Church thanks those who gave to fundraiser

I would like to thank Horton’s Super Market  and Dixie’s Baked Goods for donating to our recent church fundraiser at Shiloh United Methodist Church.
With all the different benefits and fundraisers going on all the time, I know it is hard for small businesses to  donate to each and every one.
I just want to say “thank you” to all of those that do support these type activities. It does not go unnoticed.
