  • Mexico taking over American schools

Our entire education and school system has been turned upside down.
Why is there this drop of enrollment in our schools of American children?
The short and true answer is these politicians and Mexico.
Our schoolyards all across our country are turning Mexican.
All that is going against our American society and a future for our children and their survival in schools are just one more tragedy.

  • Teachers often assign too much homework

Hello, my name is John Quincy Fichtel, and I am a Boy Scout in Troop 810 in Woodlawn.
I am completing my Citizenship in the Community merit badge and I am supposed to write the editor of a local newspaper to express my opinion in regards to a topic important to the community.
I feel as though teachers should not overload kids with so much homework and schoolwork.

  • Help honor memory of Independence library cat

The Wythe-Grayson library in Independence lost a real treasure just before Christmas.  Purrl the library cat, a most well-known and well-loved feline,  passed away Dec. 23, 2014.  Purrl was adopted by the library in April 2004.
Many library visitors and regulars donated monies throughout the years to pay for the feline’s needs — food, litter, vets care etc.  Thanks go out to all who gave to Purrl’s care, especially the library staff for their day-to-day care and love also Twin Oaks Veterinary Clinic for her healthcare needs.

  • Church is having positive impact on community

I want to express a long overdue “thank you” to Sky View Missionary Baptist Church, its pastor Wendell Horton and dedicated members.
My children attend Wednesday evening “kid services.” I can see the difference the church has made for these nine-year-old girls.
Although my husband James and I did not attend regular services, Pastor Horton provided so much support and comfort during my husband’s illness and death that words cannot express my gratitude.

  • Facebook forum infringes on freedom of speech

The First Amendment is one of the first things we learn in history classes. It’s one of the things that allows us to freely and openly express our preference in religion, to speak our minds and allow us to make a change where change is due. Recently, I’ve noticed that a local Facebook group has been prohibiting many people in this area from doing such a thing.

  • Meat industry has been playing us for fools

With April Fools’ Day just around the corner, it appears that the meat, egg, and dairy industries have been playing us for fools all year-round.
Their more remarkable hoaxes include “California’s happy cows,” “free-range chickens,” “humane slaughter.” All lies.
Less fun is the stuff they never talk about. Like the hundreds of millions of chickens crammed seven into a cage designed for one, unable to move or spread their wings.

  • Delp family thanks community for help

The Trenton Delp family would like to sincerely thank everyone for their heroic attempts at saving their children, first and foremost the first responders, firefighters, police and anyone else who offered to help that day.
    We sincerely appreciate it.
Secondly, Twin County Regional Hospital staff — you are amazing and we will never forget your hard work in trying to save our babies. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to the doctors, nurses and staff who helped us that day. Words cannot express our heartfelt thanks.

  • Women, poor and minorities underrepresented

“No taxation without representation” was our Founding Fathers’ protest cry.
The British government refused to correct the injustices and the protests became more violent and destructive, culminating in our Revolutionary War.
Fast forward to Ferguson, Mo. The population is predominantly African-American while the leadership is largely white; a distinct injustice which is undoubtedly the main underlying cause of the protests.

  • America just a memory because of immigrants

Young Americans and babies of today will never have or know America, as this government continues turning away and severing ties of any sanity with our American society.
When Castro emptied our his prisons and put some of the most evil, dangerous criminals in the world on boats and sent them in the direction of Florida — and this government sucked this evil in like a vacuum.
Miami until then was a good decent place for Americans to live, to visit and to retire, but this evil changed all that forever.

  • Grayson voters ignore intelligent candidates

A couple of things have gotten me confused lately.
Like this thing with the schools. How’d they end up short on money?
I recall a couple years back, shutting down schools and building a new one out in the country was going to fix that shortfall. Dragging kids out before dawn and bussing them all over the place made fiscal sense.
So how come now there’s all this fussing over giving teachers a raise and docking students for not showing up?
