    Waste of salt
I have a big problem with the highway department wasting chemicals on dry roads. This is such a waste. Need to take this money and repair roads instead of wasting salt.
Editor’s note: Perhaps the chemicals prevent ice and snow from sticking? Maybe it’s a preventative measure.

    Kroger fan
I am very disappointed to hear about the closing of Kroger in Galax. The managers and staff are very professional and courteous. This loss is very bad for our community. I always shopped at Kroger because of its selection of healthy food and organic produce. If you ask for a product, they go to great lengths to get it. Excellent customer service. I hear there are petitions to save the store circulating online and otherwise and I will certainly be looking for them to support.

    Come on over
To the caller who said that old-time music rules, you don’t have to go all the way to Floyd. We have great old-time and bluegrass music right here every Friday night in Galax, and once a month on Saturday night. We are at the country club now, while the Rex is being remodeled. I went on a Friday night. It was great. Had a great band and a nice dance floor. Come on and join us. We would be glad to have you. It’s only $5. Where else can you have fun?

    Mass appeal
When will the Catholic church in Woodlawn open? I have seen their sign up for years, but still no mass times. I was just wondering when it will open so I can quit driving to North Carolina.
Editor’s note: According to its online listing,  St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at the corner of Joy Ranch Road and U.S. 58 in Woodlawn holds Mass the first Sunday of the month at 9 a.m. All other Sundays, mass is at 11:30 a.m. Mass in Spanish is at 2:30 p.m.

    Voters have spoken
In regard to the county votes call, does this person not know majority rules? For the past two years, it was a 3-2 vote the other way. However, the last election [changed] the majority. The citizens have spoken. I am sure we will hear a lot from concerned citizens that got tired of the bureaucracy.

    Take a stand
Grayson County: those who want zoning out, speak out. Come to the board meeting. Stand up for what you have worked for — the right to do what you want to on your property. By the way, you are the one who has paid these taxes. Come and stand up for what you believe in.

    Still speeding
When people visit me from out of state, they are all the time asking me why the police can’t crack down on these speeders on Pipers Gap Road.
