    Paving of U.S. 52
For everyone who is complaining about U.S. 52 South below the parkway, it has been [repaved]. The rough patches have been paved and we want to give a thank you to Virginia Department of Transportation in Carroll County.

    Other culprits
About the article about the drug bust here in Galax — I’m glad you are getting the meth dealers off the road but I think you need to work on the prescription drug dealers, also.

    At your service
This message is for the sheriff’s office. Just west of Galax, I recently had the pleasure of meeting one of your deputies. I’m not sure if I can mention his name, but he has a military style haircut. He helped me with some problems I was having. This deputy was the most professional and courteous officer I’ve ever meet. My kids have always been afraid of police officers, and the way he treated them was amazing. I just wanted to say “thank you.”

    Looking good
I’d like to give a shout out to our local farmers for the wonderful job they do. The fields look so good. Beautiful, actually. So pleasing to the eye. I love sitting on my porch admiring the view I have or just driving to town and passing the hillsides and fields surrounding me. Good job, guys and gals.

    Hole fixed
I want to thank the City of Galax for finally fixing that big sinkhole at the alley between Washington Street and Webster Street that has been there for 18 years. They did a fantastic job. It hasn’t washed out yet, so hopefully it will hold.

    Getting away with it
I want to say kudos to the police department and sheriff’s department for doing their jobs getting drug dealers and drug users off the street. I want to give a raspberry to the court system that keeps turning them out. They get away with everything because they know this is the place to come to get busted because, hey, you go to court and they will give you probation. You walk out and start dealing drugs again. Again, thanks to those doing their jobs. Too bad the justice system in this county and city can’t do the same.
