    Beans and taters
To an area restaurant that has not opened yet, let’s go ahead and open up this restaurant. Let’s get the pinto beans out on the buffet.

    Backing off
I’m glad the governor and state delegates decided to not submit Virginia women to transvaginal ultrasound, better known as state rape. Now, we can relax, knowing all we have to submit to without our permission is taking our clothes off, high frequency soundwaves and observation and pictures of our uterus and ovaries.

    Leave it alone
This is regarding Clover Street and the smoking [near the hospital]. Whoever it is that called that in, it’s wintertime. What in the world is he doing outside? Can you smell the smoke? You need to leave that traffic alone because they are probably just going home.

    Righteously outraged

    Paying at the pump
Thank you Mr. Obama and the rest of you Democrats for keeping gas at an all-time “low price.” Oh, goody.
Editor’s note: The free market determines the cost of gasoline as a commodity. It is not set by the government, although policies may have some indirect bearing.

    Why not?
I’m calling in reference to the bill calling for mandatory drug tests for welfare recipients. I’ve worked for 35 years, and for the last 25 years I have been required to take random drug screens. I don’t see that as discrimination against anybody if they are good enough to spend my money, they are good enough to take the same tests I do.
Editor’s note: The House of Delegates has tabled the proposed bill until the 2013 session because of questions about how to pay for the drug-testing program.

    Smoking up street
Smokers need to have more self control. Clover Street in Galax used to be a quiet dead-end street until Twin County Regional Hospital passed a no smoking policy on their property. Now, there is a ridiculous amount of break time smokers and traffic. How do I know? Same vehicles every day, four and five times a day, everyone riding and puffing. Give Clover Street a break  or stay at your work and do your job.

    Too many trips
As a taxpayer of Grayson County I watched bus 65 make four trips to Troutdale every day. Two trips with kids and two trips empty. How can transportation coordinators not see that they are wasting a week’s worth of fuel? Bus 65 used to sit at Young’s Store. My question is, why can’t it sit at the new school right across the road? We could run that bus two years on the fuel he is burning in one year? He needs to furnish his own way to Troutdale to pick up his bus, not on taxpayer money.
