    Time for a liquor store?
This is in response to the anti-whisky comment last week. I am a life-long citizen of Grayson County and there is no place inside of Grayson County that you can buy whisky, at least not legally. Maybe it is time now that Grayson County started looking at putting a liquor store in Grayson County so our tax dollars [stay here].

    Trail needs attention
I have to agree with the caller — the City of Galax does a great job keeping Felts Park looking clean. Downtown Galax has a nice feel for tourism dollars. However, the New River Trail parking lot in Galax is an eyesore. The house they bought for the ranger station and gift shop looks haunted. The orange fencing and cross tiles piled out in the yard look trashy. How can we expect to look like a first class tourist area when our state park is not supporting one of our most popular assets?

    Tender care
I merely want to thank the Twin County Regional Hospital emergency room for excellent professional care while I was in their care. The loving, caring, tender care that they showed me is beyond mere words and certainly a credit to Galax.

    Case status
Inquiring minds want to know and who better to ask than The Gazette Inquirer? These minds want to know what is happening with the Rooftop thing. Haven’t heard anything in a while. Is the state investigation over? Has there been a trial? And better and most interesting, has anyone found out who the anonymous sources are?

    Veterans honored
I’m calling to thank The Gazette for publishing photographs of Carroll County Confederate veterans of the War Between the States. Thank you for reminding us that April is Confederate History Month in this Commonwealth of Virginia.
Editor’s note: You’re welcome. Our “Civil War Profiles” feature has proven to be quite popular, thanks to our partnership with the Jeff Matthews Museum in Galax. We will continue to feature these photos, though not in every issue as we did during April.

    What else?
I agree with the caller about town employees putting a roof on the water plant in Fries. What else do they do?

    Enough police cruisers
Just curious. On April 23 about 6:30 p.m., we observed eight police vehicles parked behind Hillsville’s new office. Also, two other vehicles on the street — the chief’s car and a patrol car. Hillsville has almost as many vehicles as officers. Something to think about on May 1.

    Past price surges
This is an answer to the “road of distress.” I would just like to ask why everybody wants to give Obama such a hard time on the price of gas. He didn’t start all the gas prices. It started in the 1970s under Nixon and Gerald Ford. Obama and Bill Clinton and John F. Kennedy and them have really helped our country and I think the Democrats need a hand of praise for it.
