    Daytime chimes
Regarding the call about chimes from the church keeping them awake at night — I live right across from the church that does that. I work. I don’t ever hear chimes after dark. They should get their facts straight. The only times I ever hear chimes are at 5 or 6 o’clock that evening. Never at dark and never at midnight, because I am up sometimes at midnight.

    Airing it out
I love the Readers’ Hotline. It gives people in our area a chance to voice their opinion and to hear other people’s opinions where we otherwise don’t have a chance. I would like to ask that another few seconds be added on to our time limit for calls. Ninety seconds is not quite enough sometimes.

    Under control
I would really like to say thank you to all the — can you say white people? If there has ever been a case of a racist person doing an attack, it is when the African-American man killed the two people from WDBJ television. But, you don’t see any white people out burning down the town of Roanoke or rioting or trying to kill people. It makes Virginia look good, but goes to show you there is some common sense.

Editor’s note: We remind readers that we do not print election-related calls in the Hotline. We had to pull two calls this week — one bashing a national candidate, and one endorsing a local candidate — for this reason. If you wish to support or oppose a candidate, please write a letter to the editor.

    None of your business
This shout out goes to the man who left a letter in my mailbox this week. It came addressed with just my first name and no return address. What a cowardly thing to do, and also illegal. I would like to let you know, it is not your job to set this old girl straight. This is just a little Peyton Place and you are a Harper Valley hypocrite.

    After the fact
I saw in The Gazette where the state tax holiday for school sales was Aug. 7-9, which didn’t make sense to me. It is kind of silly, with Carroll County Schools starting Aug. 6, and everyone more than likely had supplies and clothes already for school. At least school could have waited until after this holiday or either the tax thing could have moved up a little since Carroll County School started Aug. 6. You defeat your purpose. You can’t wait until after school to start buying supplies.
