    Running a tab
Concerning the $30,000 owed for school meals, when Carroll County teachers don’t pay for their own kids’ meals and run an outstanding balance, why do they expect anybody else to pay?

    Losing appeal

    No access
I took my kids to Providence School in Fries to the playground the other day. I didn’t realize they had turned it into Fort Knox. Everything is locked up tight. Kids can no longer play on the playground. What do you think about that, taxpayers? We paid for it. Now we can’t use it.
Editor’s note: The former school is property of the Fries Volunteer Fire Department, which uses it for a substation and to host fundraising events.

    Who’s in charge?

    Bake sale?
I wanted to make a comment on the caller that talked about Carroll supervisors taking away the funds from the sheriff’s department. I totally agree. I think the county ought to consider maybe having fundraisers and such as that. Be creative instead of taking away from the sheriff’s department. They really need it. They did a real good job and are doing a lot of good work behind the scenes.

    Central location
There are 21 acres right in the middle of Galax that have been for sale for five or six years that would be a perfect place for a new school. Looks like someone on city council would recommend that spot for the school instead of a residential area.

    Yummy
Every time I read a letter to the editor about greenhouse gases and the environment when it is really about a vegan agenda, I am going to eat an extra hamburger with a side or ribs.

    Salute to graduates
I would like to comment on how well-organized Galax High School’s graduation was. I love graduation outside. The well-maintained football field was the ideal place for my nephew’s graduation. Galax City Schools did a great job organizing and planning this event. I hope all future graduations will be outside. Congratulations, class of 2014.

    Market fan
Thanks to the Independence Farmers’ Market. Thanks to Michelle and the people that started the Farmers’ Market. Thanks to those that are participating in it. It’s a great market.

    Firing away
I was just wondering, I thought it was against the law in the Prospect and Fox Run areas of Galax to shoot a high-powered rifle around 3 in the afternoon. Let me know if it is against the law. If it is not, I may get me a gun.

    Do nothing

    Hot dog
This is for the woman who reached in my car on Memorial Day, unlocked it, took my dog and called the police. I was only in the store 10 minutes, if that long. You were a liar when you told the officer I was in there for over 45 minutes. If he had been any kind of an officer, he would have charged you with stealing. Too bad the dog didn’t bite one of your fingers off. Maybe that would have taught you a lesson not to steal or go into other people’s vehicles.

    Not an issue
I attended the Hillsville Town Council meeting held right before the election. I was appalled when a man stood up and questioned Mayor Crowder about his property. The mayor owns property in Hillsville. The Galax police chief has property in Hillsville and there is no problem. The mayor owns property near the golf course. Our past mayor owned a lake house. So, why is it all at once a problem about Mayor Crowder? Shame on you about being so nosy.
